The Multifort Chronograph Caliber 60 is latest addition to the Multifort collection on offer by Mido. Launched back in 1934, two years after completion of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Multifort collection has become one of the longest-production series in the history of Swiss watchmaking, celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.
Designed to look tough and rugged, the Mido Chronograph Caliber 60 is built for serious divers. Opting for a polished steel case measuring 44mm in diameter, the Mido is a no nonsense timepiece and that’s reflected in the 5 crowns and pushpieces used on the case. The crown located at 3 o’clock is for setting the time and winding, while the crown at 8 o’clock is used to adjust the rotating flange. Two pushpieces at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock activate the chronograph, while the pushpiece at 10 o’clock enables the date to be corrected. What does this achieve? One tough looking case!
What’s tucked inside is a state-of-the-art automatic chronograph movement, the Caliber 60 (ETA A05H31 base), exclusive to the Swatch Group boasting a 60-hour power reserve. The dial is finished in Anthracite with vertical Geneva stripes, snailed anthracite counters, with white and orange Super-LumiNova for night time legibility. The hands are also finished in satin with white and orange Super LumiNova. To help legibility, the use of anti-reflective sapphire crystal is used to protect the dial and keep legibility at a maximum. A display caseback is also used to show off the small detailing incorporated into the movement.
The Mido Multifort Chronograph Caliber 60 takes its design cue directly from the Sydney Harbour Bridge: the vertical Geneva stripes and dots that adorn the anthracite dial are a nod to the suspension and rivets of the famous structure. Several touches of orange recall Mido’s visual identity: on the two chronograph pushpieces, the rotating flange, the counter hand at 3 o’clock and finally the tip of the 60-second counter at the centre.
Available in 3 variants; the two first in steel with anthracite dial, silver-toned dial and the third in black PVD coating with a black dial and touches of blue on the rotating flange and hands. A great nod to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and wonderful addition to the Mido Multifort range.
