CCCP Time Golden Soviet Submarine (CP-7015-03) Watch

By Mark Wisdom Phillips

The Story

This collection from CCCP Time is named after the K-162 Soviet submarine due to its melding of strength and speed. It was the fastest submarine of its time while preserving strength and durability. It’s nicknames included “Gold Fish” and “Golden Submarine” because it was a pioneer of the titanium hull, which was what helped preserve strength while being fast. As a pioneer of this technology, the Golden Submarine carried Russia to more innovative waters. The Golden Soviet Submarine collection by CCCP Time borrows from the K-162 and it’s innovative concept. CCCP takes a few steps in the right direction by using that innovation for style.

Packaging and Presentation

“I’m always looking to see that watch companies send their watches to the customer with excellent presentation. I think it adds a great touch by showing they are grateful for their business and respect the customer.” As a sister company to James McCabe, this watch box is very similar.

It’s red finish, felt, and pillow is great, simple branding. I’m not blown away by the presentation, but my standards have been completely distorted by other companies that have exceeded all expectations. This is sufficient and isn’t lacking in any manner. It gets the watch to customers safely and provides a decent storage place.

The Face

This model from the Golden Soviet Submarine collection features a powerful, forceful, and simple watch face. It’s white silver flecked color complements the design well and is much more interesting than a plain white face. Turning around the familiar central axis are two powerfully thick, yet pointy and practical hands with lume so sensitive it shows in the daylight. Accompanying them is an unnaturally dainty seconds hand that seems to never give up, at least until you’re done for the day too.

The silver branding is appropriately sized and positioned. A date window with an easily visible indication of the date is found near the 3 marker which, like all of the other markers, is beautifully machined and raised from the white face. Luminescent markers are found on the outskirts of the face near each number 1-12. A nicely cut circular piece of glass covers it all up just a few millimeters from the bottom of the watch stem. A plain design that portrays strength, but it’s tank design doesn’t point to speed in any definition that I have. A solid design, but one that seems to lack in part of the original goal due to its unusual case thickness.
