Perrelet Turbine Sheriff XL for Only Watch 2015

By Harlan Chapman-Green

Perrelet for those who don’t know is that watch company that’s been going since 1777 but doesn’t quite have the illustrious history of other companies from that era. You might see them around occasionally, but they tend to be quieter when it comes to advertising which could be an advantage or a disadvantage for them, depending on how you see it.

They’re mostly known nowadays as the creators of the turbine watch, an interesting design where the movement not only moves the hands, but also powers a set of plates that oscillate under the dial which leads to the namesake of this watch, because these plates move they look like the blades of a turbine. For this watch, they’ve been replaced with a gold tipped Sherrif’s star, making sure that the owner knows that this is a full on rootn’ tootn’ shoot ‘em up watch.

The Turbine Sheriff XL watch has been clearly made to pay respect to the founder of the company, Abraham Louis Perrelet, as they’ve printed his name on the dial underneath the wild west words “Wanted Dead or Alive”. A little bit of humour can go far on a watch. The movement inside the watch is an in-house made by Perrelet automatic P-331 calibre that is clearly visible through the sapphire crystal window on the back of the case. The case itself is a mix of 18K rose gold and black PVD coated parts (such as the pin buckle). This watch is presented on a  black alligator leather strap which adds to the very dark and contrasting look this watch has. That dark look is only amplified by the size of the watch, which is 48mm in diameter.

This watch from Perrelet, the others we’ve covered so far and the remaining watches make up 44 unique pieces that are going to be sold at the Only Watch auction which is coming this November. Only watch has been running for a long time now and is a charitable auction where watch companies from Breguet to Bell & Ross create one-off pieces which are then sold to the highest bidder. The money received goes towards research which aids the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Many high-end watchmakers have become involved recently including the likes of Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin , H.Moser & Cie, Richard Mille, Blancpain, MB&F, Tudor, Speake-Marin and many more exciting brands which all offer unique creations.
