Oris Divers Sixty-Five “Deauville” Watch

By Jovan Krstevski

So for this write-up, I am going to take you back where the colors were warmer and smiles a lot brighter. Not that I dislike this generation but sometimes bringing something back from the past is a good thing, in fact, the coolest thing ever at least when it comes to watches. I am talking about the new Oris Divers Sixty-Five. Its original design was conceived half a decade ago sporting a grey dial. However, the new Sixty-Five takes inspiration from the 1960s color palette seen on the upmarket French seaside resort of Deauville and applies it to the new two-toned dial which I am going to describe later on. I am not here to talk about the old one since the new Sixty-Five is pretty much like the original but manufactured with the technologies available today. I am pretty much excited to be honest.

This is a divers watch thus the 40 mm stainless steel case with a screw-in stainless steel crown pretty much looks small for a watch this caliber. Although I am not complaining about the size since this is quite a breath of fresh idea for a top notch divers watch. Plus I kind of like the Sixty-Five’s unidirectional rotating bezel sporting black aluminum inlay with clear 60-minute timer and a Super-LumiNova filled zero marker encased on a reversed triangle. The lugs are just perfect for a divers watch and I am tempted to say that I find this divers watch rather charming for its supposedly rugged function.

Just like its predecessor, the new Oris Divers Sixty-Five takes some old design to the refreshed two tone dial. The inner grey dial looks very nice when mated with the outer dial sporting the new light Deauville blue color inspired by the seas and the most stylish resorts on the northern France’s Normandy coast. It looks classy and yet very trendy besides we are at the 21st century. It also sports the same signature green Super-LumiNova numerals printed rather largely just like the original. The nickel hands also contain the same Super-Luminova coatings minus the mid-dotted seconds hand just like the original.

The sturdy stainless steel case features a “Bubble” curved sapphire crystal domed on both sides and with anti-reflective coating inside. Inside we can find the heart of the ocean which is its self-winding movement Oris Cal. 733 based on the Sellita SW200 that features a date at 6 o’clock. Although this watch sports multi-piece stainless steel case for added strength, it just resists water up to 10 bar or 100 meters. Of course some of you will say that it is deep enough, well some professional divers out there needs a watch that can go beyond this depth. Perhaps it is the vintage look that compromises its ability to go a bit deeper but what the heck, it looks good and seldom would you go that deep anyways unless you are a pro diver.

To sum things up, this classic yet trendy divers watch that is the Oris Sixty-Five retails at 1750CHF (approx. $1,750 USD). You can have it with a black rubber divers strap with a steel buckle.
