Only Watch 2017: Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Red Passion

By Jovan Krstevski

The Flying Regulator Red Passion by Chronoswiss is by all means an extravagant watch, we mean literally the pumped up version of the Flying Regulator. And more, this unique version also uses stainless steel with super hard DLC coating. Now you asked why not use gold or other materials since this is an ultra luxurious watch? Well, we do not really want to know as steel is still an old time favorite of ours and the Flying Regulator Red Passion turned out really fine with this kind of combination.

At 40 mm diameter and height of 12 mm, the Flying Regulator Red Passion’s stainless steel case falls at the dressy side of things with a twist. The DLC-coating on the case is ultra-hard and scratch-resistant thanks to its diamond-like-carbon composition – practically making the Flying Regulator Red Passion a very sporty watch. We also love the luxurious crown particularly its use of rib design which helps for a more comfortable grip. This pattern is also seen on the side of the case at the top and bottom edges only. The larger case side finishes smoothly leaving a subtle fashionable taste. The bezel is super clean framing the “passion” picture (the beautiful dial for lack of words) perfectly.

Speaking of the dial, it comes equipped with a spectacular guilloche in flaming red. Red highlights are everywhere as seen on the hands and numerals that simply stand out in bright coral red. In our observation, the color combination of the different shades of red works perfectly for the theme of the Flying Regulator Red Passion which was inspired by the eternal power of love and passion. This is worth mentioning as the Only Watch 2017 really fights for a good cause against a disease that targets the young. The charity event benefits the research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Now going back to the dial of the Flying Regulator Red Passion, its elaborate construction on several levels somehow results to a stunning 3-D effect (hence the name Flying Regulator). We also love how the sub-dials in galvanic black float above screwed plinths thus showcasing a very dramatic environment.

Black and red has never been this sweet and to compliment the powerful character of this unique timepiece, a very special strap is used perfectly matching the colors of the dial and case. The hand-crafted alligator leather strap looks fabulous completing the Flying Regulator’s elegant look.

Powering the Flying Regulator Red Passion is the in-house Chronoswiss manufacture caliber C.122. This automatic movement features Rhodium-plated, skeletonized rotor in red with Geneva Stripes. It also has ball bearing mounted, circular-grained plate, and bridges with Geneva Stripes and circular-grained offsets. It even goes further with gold-plated engraving and jewel settings, polished lever, escape wheel and screws. Underneath that layer of beautiful design is really more of a powerhouse which can also be seen through the exhibition caseback.

The watch also comes with a bonus, a special travel case which is lined with bright red leather in order to match the color theme of the the Flying Regulator Red Passion. Estimates are expected somewhere between 10,000 USD to 17,000 USD.
