Rolex Unveils The New Submariner Desk Clock With Secular Calendar

Rolex finally offers its desk clock to the public, featuring a calendar that never needs correction.

So here’s something we didn’t see coming. Rolex has been making desk clocks for years, but they were always internal gifts for employees hitting milestone anniversaries and such. Now they’ve actually put one up for sale and it’s more serious than you’d expect.

What’s remarkable here isn’t just that Rolex made a desk clock, but how they made it. The 80mm stainless steel clock features genuine Cerachrom ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal, using the same materials as actual Submariner watches.

Here’s where it gets interesting. Rolex could’ve slapped in some generic quartz movement and called it a day. Instead, they developed the Calibre 8335, finished to the same standard as their wristwatch movements. I’m talking full metal construction, Geneva striping, and the works. That’s plenty of work for something hidden from view.

Curiously, the movement has an LCD display tucked inside, visible only when you remove the caseback to set the time. Pull the crown and it shows you a secular perpetual calendar with date, month and year. This thing accounts for leap years and those weird “non leap cycles” centuries from now. It runs on two lithium batteries and includes an end-of-life indicator that shifts how the seconds hand moves before they die.

At $10,270 and only available at ADs & boutiques, Rolex Submariner Desk Clock 909010LN certainly isn’t an impulse purchases, rather a very well thought out acquisition, positioned to be attainable for true Rolex enthusiasts who can’t (or don’t want to) wear the watches themselves; whether due to workplace restrictions, personal preference, or simply wanting more brand touchpoints.
