A. Lange & Söhne adds a new configuration to its Zeitwerk Date line, for the first time pairing pink gold with a grey dial in the collection. Introduced originally in 2019, the Zeitwerk Date brings the brand’s digital mechanical time display together with a peripheral date indication. The new version maintains the core technical profile with a slightly different character courtesy of warmer case material; it’s still contemporary, but with a more subdued presence.
The case measures 44.2mm x 12.3mm, cut from 750 pink gold. It’s substantial, both visually and on the wrist, but not without refinement. The surfaces are precisely executed, as expected from the brand, with a sapphire crystal on both front and back. Water resistance is rated to 3 bar, which is more a formality than a feature.
As before, the pushers at 4 and 8 o’clock handle hour and date correction respectively.
On the dial side, things remain functionally distinctive. The digital display reads left to right, with jumping hours and minutes aligned along the central axis. The subsidiary seconds sits at six, tucked into the signature German silver time bridge that connects the visual and mechanical architecture. The date is presented via a glass ring printed with numerals 1 to 31, with a red indicator segment underneath that advances at midnight.
Inside is the manually wound calibre L043.8, operating at 18,000vph. The movement contains 516 components and features a constant force escapement that regulates energy to the jumping numerals mechanism. The power reserve is 72 hours. A fly governor helps manage the force of the numeral jumps and protects the mechanism from excess energy. Technically, it’s an involved construction with real mechanical weight.
The watch is delivered on a dark brown, hand stitched alligator leather strap with a 750 pink gold prong buckle. The price is set at €130,000EUR/$132,000USD.
