Some watch releases don’t need a lot of context to understand what they’re trying to achieve. The new H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Centre Seconds Sun Berry Ref. 3201-1203 is exactly that, a vibrant, summer colorway that leans entirely into its seasonal theme without overthinking it. Moser has quietly mastered this approach with the Pioneer line, especially lately, by using the collection as a canvas for their expressive, branding-free “Concept” dials.
The case measures 40mm x 12.3mm (which drops to a slim 10.4mm if you exclude the proud, domed sapphire crystal), and with a 48.1mm lug-to-lug distance, it wears incredibly reasonably on most wrists without dominating your real estate.
The steel case plays with light using a dynamic mix of brushed and polished surfaces. It features Moser’s signature recessed flanks with engraved ribbing, giving the case profile a layer of depth without making the overall design feel too cluttered. It also comes equipped with a screw-down crown that ensures water resistance to 120 meters.
The “Concept” dial is undoubtedly the star of the show, featuring a vibrant Berry Purple fumé finish that catches the light with a dynamic sunburst effect. Staying true to Moser’s minimalist philosophy, they have stripped away all indices, logos, and text, leaving only the colors and clean lines. The design is anchored by a high-contrast yellow flange and matching leaf-shaped hands, which are filled with yellow Super-LumiNova to maintain the bold look during the summer nights.
This “less is more” approach has become a hallmark of Moser, serving as the foundation for their rise in the collector community. By relying entirely on the interplay of texture, shape, and color rather than branding, the Pioneer Sun Berry manages to feel both modern and refined. It is a confident design choice that prioritizes the pure experience of the watch face over the need for traditional ornamentation.
Powering the watch is the in-house Calibre HMC 201, a 27-jewel automatic movement operating at 21,600 vph (3Hz) and driven by a bi-directional pawl winding system delivering a 3-day power reserve. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement offers plenty of visual drama thanks to an anthracite finish on the open bridges and a skeletonized rotor. It also features a Straumann hairspring, a technical detail Moser rightfully highlights since they manufacture it entirely in-house.
To complete the summer theme, the new Pioneer Centre Seconds Sun Berry is paired with a vibrant yellow rubber strap and a steel pin buckle engraved with the Moser logo. Retail pricing is set at 14,500 excl. VAT.
