BY HARLAN CHAPMAN-GREEN
Green is one of the many colours having their moment on watch dials. Following a steady stream of blue watches over the last ten years or so, manufacturers have started experimenting more seriously with reds, browns and also greens. H. Moser & Cie. is the latest to the party with its new Streamliner Small Seconds Lime Green Enamel Boutique Edition reference 6500-120 watch, but I think we’ll just call it the Streamliner Green, or perhaps the ‘Greenliner’.

The case is conservative and presents in the style of the other Streamliner watches. That means you get a design with wide links on the tapering stainless steel bracelet, each link made from a single wide piece with articulation on either side. Having tried a different version of the Streamliner range on a bracelet, I can say that it’s very comfortable. The stainless steel case of the Streamliner Green measures 39mm x 10.9mm and offers 120m of water resistance, just as one would expect from H. Moser & Cie’s sportiest offering.

As is tradition for H. Moser & Cie. watches, the enamel dial has a fumé effect, resulting in a bright lime green colour at the dial centre that fades as it radiates towards the dial edge. It’s a subtler gradient than on some of their other watches, but it still looks good. The circular pattern of the small seconds dial provides contrast, and there’s Globolight lume for nighttime reading.
Behind the dial sits a partially skeletonised self-winding movement, the calibre HMC-500. The movement’s construction allows you to view more of the wheels and such, a bit like Czapek’s (also) self-winding calibre SXH5. The HMC-500 was designed and made in-house and has a 3Hz beat rate with a minimum power reserve of 74 hours. The finishing appears high quality, as you’d expect, with “Moser stripes” covering the plates. The micro rotor’s decoration is simple, yes, but it’s elegant.
As the name suggests, the new Streamliner Green is available only at one of H. Moser & Cie.’s nine boutiques (Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Menlo Park, Seoul, New Delhi, Singapore, Chengdu & Chicago), none of which are in Europe. The retail price for this model is $39,000.
