H. Moser & Cie. Unveils The Streamliner Genesis 2 Watch With Vantablack Dial

The dark side of luxury watchmaking is perfectly encapsulated in this Genesis 2.

Moser is back with the second act of their Genesis trilogy and quite interestingly, this time they’ve shifted from the blockchain-focused first watch to a traditional steel piece. While the first explored NFTs and digital authentication, this one shifts its focus to a more tangible expression of watchmaking.

The case comes in stainless steel and measures 40mm x 10.3mm (12.1mm with sapphire crystal). It maintains the cushion shape seen across the Streamliner family, with an integrated bracelet that flows seamlessly out of the case. Water resistance is rated at 120 meters. The crown is 3D printed in titanium, with pixelated edges carried over from Genesis 1.

The dial features a vantablack surface, absorbing 99.965% of light. I’ve seen it on a few watches now, most notably Moser’s own Endeavour Concept Vantablack line a few years back, and it still delivers the punch. The effect makes the dial look almost like an empty void, with the steel hands appearing to float on top. Those hands are pixelated, continuing the design from the first watch.

The HMC 203 runs the show. This in house automatic movement is visible through the caseback, where partially skeletonised bridges and an openworked 18k gold rotor open up the view. The bridges are finished in anthracite with Moser’s signature double stripes, giving the movement a distinctly contemporary feel. A large balance wheel beats at 21,600vph, powered by Moser’s Straumann hairspring, while the barrel delivers a solid three-day power reserve.

The steel bracelet mirrors the case with a mix of polished and brushed surfaces. Ownership of the Genesis 1 unlocks access to the Genesis 2, either directly or by invitation, as each of the 50 original owners can purchase one and invite one friend to do the same. That brings total production to 100 pieces, split evenly between the two groups. Move fast, because 50 pieces per group will not last long. The price is CHF 29,900 before tax.
