It is with profound sadness that we learned earlier today of the passing of Jean-Marie Schaller, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Les Atelier Louis Moinet, on 16 May 2026.
A native of Corban in the Swiss Jura Mountains, Jean-Marie established Louis Moinet in 2004 to restore the historic name to prominence in the 21st century, following the recommendation of Daniel Roth, with whom he had long collaborated. Like many boutique watch brands, Louis Moinet began as a family endeavour, with Jean-Marie and his wife, Micaela, working from their kitchen. Over time the company would expand and his son and daughter would join him on that horological adventure, with his son taking an active role in the company.

Visiting Louis Moinet at events such as Watches & Wonders Geneva is always a pleasure for us, their watches are so different and so creative that it would be very hard not to love them. This is, of course, thanks to Jean-Marie’s visionary thinking and dedication to bringing Louis Moinet back into focus over 150 years after Louis’ passing. Acting Chief Executive and Board Member, Kurt Kupper, will continue Jean-Marie’s work to make Louis Moinet watches exciting, attractive, and different from the rest.
