Introducing: Audemars Piguet x Swatch Royal Pop

Audemars Piguet and Swatch just turned the Royal Oak into a pocket watch and honestly, it’s wild.

There was the MoonSwatch, then the Blancpain collaboration, and now, somehow, we’ve arrived at perhaps the most unexpected Swatch crossover yet. Audemars Piguet and Swatch have teamed up for the new Royal Pop collection, a colorful and completely unhinged reinterpretation of the Royal Oak that transforms the iconic luxury sports watch into a pocket watch inspired by the original Swatch POP from the 1980s.

The Case

The new Audemars Piguet x Swatch Royal Pop collection comes in eight different Bioceramic models, each taking design inspiration from the Royal Oak’s signature octagonal bezel, visible screws, and Petite Tapisserie dial pattern, while completely throwing out the idea that a Royal Oak has to live on the wrist.

Instead, these are pocket watches, necklace watches, desk clocks, or bag accessories; they’re whatever you want them to be.

But beyond the playful appearance, the construction itself is surprisingly elaborate. Audemars Piguet and Swatch didn’t simply stamp a Royal Oak inspired shape into Bioceramic and call it a day. Instead, the Royal Pop comes with eight additional patents tied to the complex case architecture, combining the octagon, circle, and barrel-shaped forms associated with the original Royal Oak.

Visually, the collection fully leans into the pop art inspiration with eight different colourways. Models like OTTO ROSSO arrive in bright pink and cherry red, GREEN EIGHT goes all in on green tones, while HUIT BLANC mixes multiple screw colours across a white bezel. Others like OCHO NEGRO keep things more restrained with black and white contrasts, while LAN BA and OTG ROZ introduce small seconds displays in more playful colour combinations. Additional references like BLAUE ACHT and ORENJI HACHI further push the colourful pop art aesthetic with contrasting bezel and dial executions throughout the collection.

The case measures 40mm x 8.4mm without the clip and 44.2mm x 53.2mm when mounted onto the holder clip. Water resistance is rated at 20 meters, while both the front and rear sapphire crystals feature anti-reflective coating. The lightweight Bioceramic construction also keeps the watches playful rather than overly serious.

The Dials

The dials borrow heavily from the Royal Oak playbook with stamped petite tapisserie patterns, Audemars Piguet x Swatch branding, and Royal Pop logos executed in eight different colors throughout the collection.

The bathtub-inspired Royal Oak style hour and minute hands, along with the indexes, are coated with Super LumiNova for nighttime visibility, helping preserve some of the familiar Royal Oak DNA despite the far more playful overall concept.

There are also two different layouts available across the collection. Six models use a traditional Lépine style configuration with the crown positioned at 12 o’clock and a clean two-hand display, while two models adopt a Savonnette style layout with the crown at 3 o’clock alongside a small seconds subdial, adding a slightly more traditional pocket watch feel to the collection.

The Movement

All eight models are powered by a new hand-wound version of Swatch’s SISTEM51 movement, and surprisingly, this might be the most impressive part of the entire collaboration.

The calibre operates at 21,600 vph and delivers an impressive 90-hour power reserve while also featuring an anti-magnetic Nivachron balance spring and factory-set laser precision adjustments, and the movement decorations are digitally printed.

One of the interesting details is the visible barrel drum on the movement side, which doubles as a power reserve indicator. When the chambers appear grey, the mainspring is unwound, and when they turn gold, the movement is fully wound.

It’s the kind of nerdy detail that makes the entire collaboration feel more thought through than expected.

The Straps & Prices

Each model is paired with a colourful calfskin lanyard featuring contrasting stitching, continuing the playful pop art aesthetic seen throughout the collection.

The prices are set at CHF 350 / EUR 385 / USD 400 for the hours and minutes models, while the small seconds versions are priced at CHF 375 / EUR 400 / USD 420.

The Audemars Piguet x Swatch Royal Pop collection launches on May 16, 2026, exclusively through selected Swatch stores, with the usual one watch per person, per day rule applying.

Final Thoughts

This collection feels more like Audemars Piguet and Swatch having fun with the mythology surrounding one of the most recognizable watches ever made. The whole thing feels playful in a way the modern watch industry rarely allows itself to be anymore. It’s colourful, weird, slightly ridiculous, and very self-aware, and probably one of the most entertaining watch collaborations we’ve seen in a long time.

You can already picture the wave of custom straps that’s inevitably coming for these too, because a collection this playful was never going to stop with the watches alone.
