Hublot continues its Essential series with the launch of the new Spirit of Big Bang Essential Taupe editions, bringing the taupe theme to the tonneau-shaped collection for the very first time. Following previous Essential Grey and Essential Taupe releases across other collections, the latest models continue the annual online exclusive concept centered around a single color approach, this time softening one of Hublot’s most aggressive and technical designs.
Limited to 200 pieces each and available exclusively through Hublot’s online channels, the new Essential Taupe lineup arrives in a 42mm chronograph and time-only form in 32mm. While the Spirit of Big Bang collection has traditionally leaned heavily into sharp architecture, layered cases, and highly extroverted styling, the muted taupe execution gives both references a noticeably calmer and more contemporary presence without compromising the visual identity that defines the lineup.

The new Spirit of Big Bang Essential Taupe Chronograph 42mm remains closest to the traditional Spirit of Big Bang formula. Made in lightweight titanium with polished, satin-brushed, and sandblasted finishes, the multi part tonneau-shaped case measures 42mm x 14.1mm while maintaining 100 meters of water resistance. Hublot also executes the signature lateral bumpers in titanium here, rather than the rubber usually seen on other Spirit of Big Bang references, giving the case a more seamless overall appearance.
The taupe dial features alternating satin-finished and polished checkerboard-style squares inspired by the texture of carbon fibre, creating additional depth across the display while maintaining the restrained color palette of the Essential series. Combined with the tricompax chronograph layout, the watch retains a mechanical character associated with the Spirit of Big Bang collection.
While the framed sub dials display running seconds at 9 o’clock, a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour totalizer at 6 o’clock, all finished with matching snailed interiors, a discreet date display is positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock. The Arabic numerals, indices, and hands are treated with Super-LumiNova, providing contrast against the muted taupe backdrop while preserving legibility throughout.
Powering the watch is the HUB4700 self-winding column wheel chronograph movement based on Zenith’s El Primero 400 architecture. Operating at a high-beat frequency of 5Hz (36,000 vph), the calibre consists of 278 components and 31 jewels while delivering 50 hours of power reserve and accuracy to 1/10th of a second.
The Spirit of Big Bang Essential Taupe 42mm Chronograph is fitted with Hublot’s One Click interchangeable strap system and delivered with two taupe strap options, including a fabric strap with Velcro fastener and a taupe rubber strap paired with a titanium microblasted sport buckle. Pricing is set at USD 24,800 / EUR 24,300 / GBP 19,500 / CHF 20,600.

The smaller Spirit of Big Bang Essential Taupe 32mm takes a more restrained approach while still preserving the distinctive case architecture of the collection. Crafted in polished, satin-brushed, and sandblasted stainless steel, the tonneau-shaped case measures 32mm x 10.8mm and has the same 100 meters of water resistance as big brother. Most notably, this marks the first 32mm Spirit of Big Bang that comes without a diamond-set bezel, giving the watch a considerably more versatile and understated identity.
Its sunray brushed taupe dial keeps the overall presentation simple and balanced, allowing the layered construction of the case and sloping flange to remain focused on the design. The applied hour markers extend inward across the dial, creating a subtle sense of depth, while the broad angular hands and bevelled date window at 6 o’clock maintain the clean overall execution.
Powering the watch is the HUB1120 self-winding movement (Sellita SW1000 base), operating at 4Hz (28,800 vph) with 40 hours of power reserve. The movement remains visible through the sapphire caseback, reinforcing the more technical side of the otherwise restrained design.
Like the chronograph, the 32mm model is equipped with Hublot’s One Click interchangeable strap system and delivered with two taupe strap options combining rubber and Nytech fabric textures. The price lands at USD 14,900 / EUR 14,600 / GBP 11,700 / CHF 12,400.
While the Spirit of Big Bang collection is usually associated with bold and highly aggressive styling, the Essential Taupe editions present a softer interpretation of the lineup, allowing the shapes, textures, and materials to take center stage in a more restrained way.
