While some watches try hard to stand out, others just show up, do their job well, and quietly build a following over the years. The new Mido Commander Datoday firmly belongs to that second camp, keeping the long-running Commander line simple, practical, and familiar. The Commander has been around since 1959, always a staple in Mido’s line, and with the new Datoday models, the brand sticks to that formula.
At 40mm x 10.7mm, the case fits most wrists without feeling bulky, with a slim bezel, short lugs, and a dial that still feels generous, classic Commander territory. The mix of brushed and polished steel gives it some grit, so it never crosses into dresswatch territory. It is offered in three stainless steel versions and a PVD rose gold model for a more distinctive look, while it can handle 50 meters of water pressure.

The dial sticks closely to the classic Commander playbook. A sunray brushed center sits inside an angled flange that frames the hour markers, while the markers and hands are polished with black accents and luminous inserts. The day-date display sits at 3 o’clock, just as the Datoday name suggests. Buyers can choose from three stainless steel options: dark blue (M021.430.11.041.00), silvery white (M021.430.11.031.00), or anthracite grey (M021.430.11.061.00) dials. The PVD-coated rose gold model pairs its case with a dark green dial (M021.430.33.091.00) for a slightly more distinctive look.
Inside is the Calibre 80, based on the reliable ETA 2824 used by several Swatch Group brands and upgraded with an 80-hour power reserve. It also features a Nivachron balance spring to stay accurate around magnets, a practical bonus if you spend the day near a laptop.
All versions come with a three-link stainless steel bracelet that mixes brushed and polished surfaces. The bracelet has quick-release spring bars, making strap swaps easy if you want a different look, while the folding clasp keeps it secure on the wrist. The Mido Commander Datoday is now part of the permanent collection and available through the brand’s retail network. Prices start at EUR 990 for the stainless steel models, with the PVD rose gold version listed at EUR 1,150.
