I don’t know about you, dear reader, but I like a bit of salmon here and there, although it’s one of those flavours that I’ve had to teach myself to like and have to eat on occasion to remind myself that I do like it (I’m not crazy, right?). Jovan probably would think that, but he doesn’t like fish at all unless it’s served in batter with chips to make that British classic. Anyway, I’m rambling, but the reason I talked about salmon was because H. Moser & Cie. has recently shared a new Endeavour Perpetual Calendar watch with a ‘smoked salmon’ dial.
The Endeavour has always been a striking watch to behold, and that’s thanks to its brilliantly simple dial, well, simple compared with traditional perpetual calendar watches, which usually have three or four subdials displaying their info.
The Endeavour, on the other hand, appears to give almost nothing away. It shows the date with an instantaneous jumping date window at 3 O’clock, and around the back, there’s a leap year indicator.
There is actually a month indicator on the dial as well, it’s the part that looks like a small seconds indicator. It has 12 segments, with each one representing one of the months of the year. H. Moser & Cie. says that users can adjust the time on the watch at any point in the day or night without risk of damaging anything, which is a practical touch. There’s also a power reserve indicator at 9 O’clock, displaying all seven days (168 hours) of power this watch can have in reserve. This is all thanks to the calibre HMC 800 found inside the watch, which is on display through the caseback and has plenty of high-end finishing to admire, and a 2.5Hz beat rate.
It’s quite a feat of design to have what is traditionally quite an intricate complication showing lots of data, showing only the bare essentials. The smoked salmon-coloured dial, complete with the griffé vertically-finished dial giving off barrel-aged whiskey vibes according to H.Moser & Cie. It’s all set within an 18k white gold case measuring 42.0mm x 13.1mm with 30m of water resistance, the case is paired with an alligator nubuck leather strap.
This watch isn’t a limited edition and is priced at CHF54,000 before taxes.
