Laurent Ferrier has introduced the Sport Auto 79 in Red Gold, marking a luxurious evolution of its integrated bracelet sports watch. This edition celebrates the brand’s 15th anniversary and pays homage to its origins; rooted in the 1979 Le Mans race, where founders François Servanin and Laurent Ferrier secured a remarkable third place finish.

The 41.5mm x 12.7mm case keeps the same barrel-like silhouette and signature curves that make this piece wear like a dream, but swaps titanium for 18k red gold. It’s smooth, it’s satin-brushed, it’s got just enough polish to catch the light. Water resistant to 120m.

The dial’s been refreshed with a mellow cream tone and a rose-silver opaline finish, replacing the earlier blue and green. Red gold markers and assegai-shaped hands, both filled with Super-LumiNova, keep things legible in the dark. Powder-grey text blends in smoothly, while the crosshair motif, angled date at 3, and snailed small seconds subdial all remain.

The calibre LF270.01 keeps things ticking with a micro-rotor in platinum, pumping out 72 hours of power reserve. No natural escapement here, this one’s built for everyday action with a Swiss lever escapement, but the finish is still top-shelf: ruthenium-treated bridges, hand-polished bevels, even a laser-engraved rotor that gives a nod to that iconic ’79 race. It runs at 4Hz, so it’s smooth and snappy.

The bracelet is all red gold with satin-finished links and polished edges to match the case. It’s not adjustable on the fly, but once sized, it’s a silky fit. If the titanium version was a sleeper hit, this one’s the champagne toast. This Sport Auto 79 in red gold joins the permanent collection, not a limited edition and it’s priced at CHF 79,000 before taxes.
