The new Seiko Prospex PADI 60th Anniversary Limited Edition HBB002 marks two huge milestones at once: six decades of PADI’s global diving legacy and 10 years of collaboration between Seiko and PADI. Instead of dropping a standard issue diver, Seiko pulled out all the stops to create an exclusive milestone edition based on their iconic King Turtle design.
The watch utilizes Seiko’s famous cushion-shaped Turtle case, which gives it a commanding 45mm x 13.2mm. Despite the large width, it wears incredibly well on normal wrists because of the special design. The steel case features a mix of brushed and polished finishes, anchored by a unidirectional rotating bezel that gets a deep blue ceramic insert. The crown is securely screwed-down at the 4 o’clock position so it never digs into the back of your hand, and the entire setup is ISO-certified for diving with a solid 200m water resistance.
Underneath the sapphire crystal, the dial layout is built entirely around PADI’s anniversary logo. It uses a rich sunburst blue base that features an intricately stamped globe motif stretching across the entire surface. To ensure you can read it instantly underwater, it is packed with high-contrast LumiBrite on the hands and markers, while bright red hits pop on the central seconds hand and the text above the 6 o’clock mark. A neat day-date display sits over at 3 o’clock, topped with a magnifying cyclops lens built right into the crystal to keep things highly visible.
Behind the engraved caseback is Seiko’s in-house automatic Calibre 4R36. The movement runs at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz), features 24 jewels, and offers a 41-hour power reserve. It includes both manual winding and a hacking seconds function, meaning the seconds hand stops completely when you pull out the crown so you can sync the time down to the second. It is an absolute workhorse built to survive decades of use.
Seiko delivers this 8,000-piece limited edition in a commemorative PADI box and includes two distinct options for your wrist. It comes mounted on a classic stainless steel three-fold bracelet with a secure lock and a built-in wetsuit extension, but you also get a high-strength black silicone strap stamped with the full “Professional Association of Diving Instructors” text. Personally, I think getting both the steel and the accordion-style rubber strap in the box adds value. Retailing at 750 Euros, it is a fantastic, highly collectible tool watch that honors a real maritime legacy without completely breaking the bank.
