Tudor is adding another bold colorway to its growing collection of Black Bay Chronos, but the new Black Bay Chrono 39 Bumblebee is about much more than a yellow dial. While the striking color combination immediately catches the eye, the biggest change comes from the case itself. For the first time, Tudor has downsized the Black Bay Chrono, bringing the dimensions closer to what many collectors have been asking for since the model’s debut in 2017.
The result is a more compact, more wearable watch that retains all the characteristics that made the model successful while improving everyday comfort on the wrist.
The biggest talking point is undoubtedly the new case size. Tudor has reduced the diameter from 41mm x 14.2mm to 39mm x 13.1mm, and the lug-to-lug is trimmed down to 47mm. The steel case combines brushed and polished surfaces and is paired with a fixed steel bezel fitted with a black anodised aluminium tachymeter insert. Water resistance remains 200 meters, maintaining the watch’s sporty credentials despite its more compact proportions.

Tudor has also changed several details, such as the crown, which returns to a more traditional design, while the domed caseback and slimmer case profile help reduce the visual bulk that some collectors found noticeable on previous Black Bay Chrono models, and the screw-down pushers remain unchanged.

Part of Tudor’s Daring Watches collection, the Bumblebee lives up to its nickname with a matte yellow dial contrasted by black subdials. The combination delivers a strong vintage racing aesthetic while remaining unmistakably modern. Blackened Snowflake hands and applied hour markers maintain the familiar Black Bay identity, while white Super LumiNova ensures visibility in low-light conditions.
Powering the Black Bay Chrono 39 Bumblebee is Tudor’s MT5813 automatic chronograph calibre. Based on Breitling’s B01 movement, it remains one of the strongest technical packages in the segment. The COSC-certified movement features a column-wheel chronograph mechanism, operates at 4Hz (28,800 vph), and delivers 70 hours of power reserve. Additional technical highlights include a non-magnetic silicon balance spring and a variable inertia balance for improved stability and accuracy.
The Black Bay Chrono 39 Bumblebee feels like a natural evolution of the collection. While the bright yellow dial will undoubtedly divide opinions, the reduced dimensions are likely to appeal to a much broader audience. For many enthusiasts, this may finally be the Black Bay Chrono that offers the perfect balance between presence and comfort.
The watch is fitted to a three-link stainless steel bracelet with polished and satin-brushed finishes, secured by Tudor’s T-Fit clasp that allows quick micro-adjustments without needing to take the watch off your wrist. The Tudor Black Bay Chrono 39 Bumblebee is not a limited edition, although availability may be more selective as part of the “Daring Watches” range. Price is set at €6,200 / US$ 6,725 / £5,270 / CHF 6,000
