Omega recently unveiled its novelties for the year 2019 and there were quite a few watches that piqued our interest. A few days back we briefed you about the new Omega Seamaster 300 chronograph with a cleaner Bi-compax dial and today we are looking at another new member of the Seamaster family the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra World Timer in stainless steel. First introduced in 2017 in platinum this new steel variant features a new stunning blue dial and makes the practical and purposeful complication highly accessible.
The dial on this watch has a multilayered construction and is characterized by a world map relief at the center which has been created on a grade 5 titanium plate using laser ablation to segregate the blue oceans and the continents. Moving outwards you have first a 24-hour glass ring which showcases day and night time in a light and dark shade of blue respectively. The ring is followed by blue vertical stripes which mimic the teak decks found on yachts and have always been a signature design element of the Aqua Terra line up. Finally, on the outer section of the dial, are the major cities of the world printed in two steps on separate rings. Apart from the world time function the rest of the dial is a familiar affair with sharp triangular lume filled indices, a distinctive handset and a nicely done date window at 6.
The 43mm case bears the same silhouette as the one found on the 2017 platinum edition of the watch. It is beautifully finished with a mix of polished and brushed surfaces and features the famous twisted lugs which give the case an added character. Both front and back of the case are fitted with sapphire glass and the case is water resistant to 150 meters with the help of a nice conical shaped threaded crown at 3.
Powering the Omega Seamaster Aquaterra Worldtimer is the caliber 8939. This is an automatic movement which is equipped with the revolutionary Co-Axial escapement and beats at a rather strange frequency of 3.5Hz. It boasts of a 60-hour power reserve with the help of two barrels and is METAS certified offering supreme accuracy. The movement enables the wearer to track multiple time zones simultaneously and features a jumping hour hand which can be moved forward or backward without disturbing the home time displayed through the 24-hour rotating glass disk.
The new Omega Aqua Terra Worldtimer is a good-looking watch which is now all set to become perfect travel companion of many globetrotters in its stainless-steel guise. The watch would be made available in a variety of strap options starting at USD 8,900 for the rubber strap variant and USD 9,100 for the bracelet version.
