With the Holiday Season upon us there’s never been a better time to check out some ideas for new watches. Whether it’s a gift for someone special or even just yourself, Glashütte Original is marking this holiday season one to remember, and so we’ve got the low down for you.
Inverse watches
Loving mechanical wristwatches requires an appreciation of both fine engineering and pristine finishing, the Inverse watches from Glashütte Original offer some of the finest views of mechanical watchmaking around today. I talk as if they’re a brand new revelation when they mostly aren’t, Glashütte Original has been offering views into the tiny worlds inside wristwatches for over a decade.
Despite the watches being around for so long there are still new tricks up the sleeves of this German watchmaker. Earlier this year we saw the new PanoLunarInverse watch which combined the ‘inside out’ style of watch design with a moonphase for the first time. That watch was a limited edition piece featuring a 42mm platinum case and hand-engraved everything, showcasing the best they have to offer. Most of you agreed in the comments section of that article, which though a small sample size shows that there’s plenty of love for the PanoLunarInverse watch. See our write-up for more info.
If that wasn’t special enough for you, there’s also the PanoMaticInverse Limited Edition watch, which pays tribute to the architecture of the city of Dresden, the nearest city to the little town of Glashütte. It, too, features an asymmetrical dial, although it’s adorned with engravings, including the dome on the roof of the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden. The movement engraving is special, too, with a depiction of the banks of the river Elbe as seen in Dresden. The rotor is in the shape of the Lantern of the Frauenkirche which is a viewing platform in the iconic landmark.
These are just a couple of the many luxurious watches Glashütte Original makes that would make perfect gifts for any man.
Serenade Luna
It’s said that behind every great man, there has to be a great woman, or, well, Eurythmics (and Aretha Franklin) certainly put it that way. If it is the case that there’s a special lady who deserves a gift she’ll never forget then Glashütte Original has got her covered as well.
The Serenade Luna watch is the go-to ladies’ watch with various options to suit many different themes. The deep blue model stands thanks to its colour and the sunburst finish on the dial. Of course, the star of the show is the moonphase indicator at 6 O’clock with deep blue lacquer creating a sense of depth. This model comes with a stainless steel case on either a bracelet or a strap, and other dial colours are available, too.
Perhaps the most eye-catching model is the 18k red gold version with the shimmering green dial. Cut from the same cloth as the other models and all of the other watches Glashütte Original makes, this version features the same 32.5mm case but with a luxurious green alligator strap. There are also diamonds applied to the dial as there are on the other models, but this watch also has diamonds applied to the bezel which is an optional extra on the other models. The moonphase also features Tahitian mother-of-pearl in this model. All models feature a self-winding in-house made movement measuring only 3.8mm thick. See our write-up for the full details.
As I said earlier, these are but some of the many watches Glashütte Original offers, and now is the perfect time to get one sorted before the mad Christmas shopping rush really gets going!
