Introducing The Breitling Superocean Automatic 44 IRONMAN Limited Edition Watch

BY DHANANJAY PATHAK

During Baselworld 2019 Breitling introduced a completely overhauled, cleaner and more refined version of their popular dive watch, the Superocean. Based on the refreshed design, Breitling has now introduced the Superocean Automatic IRONMAN Limited Edition watch. Featuring a 44mm case that is water-resistant to 1000 meters this new sports watch celebrates the brand’s partnership with IRONMAN, a company that is famous for organizing triathlon sports events.

Presented in a deep shade of black the dial on this watch bears a no-fuss utilitarian look. The applied hour markers are a mix of big bold Arabic numerals at 12,6 and 9, and three-dimensional trapezoids which combine to give the watch a nice modern vibe. The indices and hands have been generously filled with white luminous paint that provides a nice contrast against the black backdrop and would aid low light visibility. Adding visual interest to the dial are splashes of red which can be seen on the printed minute track that runs on the outer periphery and the tip of the seconds hand. And finally, to highlight the Ironman connection there is a bold IRONMAN logo sitting at the 3 o’clock position.

Made from stainless steel the case of this watch measures 44mm in diameter which is certainly on the larger side but is bound to make a strong statement on the wrist. Sitting on top of the case is a unidirectional dive time bezel that features a black bezel insert to complement the black dial. Flipping the watch over, you will find a closed case back with the Ironman logo at the center surrounded by the limited-edition text and some other information related to the watch. The case is water-resistant to 1000 meters which is ensured by a screw-down crown at 3.

Driving the watch is Breitling’s Caliber 17. This is an automatic movement that operates at a frequency of 4Hz and offers a power reserve of around 38 hours. The movement is a COSC certified Chronometer which implies that it would run accurately within a variation of -4 to +6 seconds a day.

The Breitling Superocean Automatic IRONMAN Limited Edition is a rugged watch that is ready to take on the next triathlon challenge. The watch would come attached to a red Pro III rubber strap and would be limited to 300 pieces. It would be available to purchase through Breitling boutiques and at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship to be held in Nice on 7-8 September 2019 and the IRONMAN World Championship that takes place in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii on 12th October 2019.
