A new escapement design promises greater accuracy and reliability.

Bernhard Lederer, a highly regarded watchmaker known for his expertise and innovative contributions to the field of horology, has unveiled a unique ‘dial-less’ rendition, presenting a reimagined aesthetic that lays bare the captivating movement while infusing it with vibrant pops of color using Super-LumiNova, in the form of the new Lederer Central Impulse Chronometer watch.

The novel escapement is based on the work of Abraham-Louis Breguet and George Daniels, but it has been significantly improved by Bernhard Lederer. The two escapement wheels are independently powered by their own barrels, and they work in alternation with an anchor that is unique in its profile, jewels, and angles of lift. This system ensures optimum chronometric operation and precision under everyday conditions.

The watch is housed in a 44mm stainless steel case with a black DLC coating. The dial is also black DLC-coated, with Super-LumiNova highlights. The movement is hand-wound and has a power reserve of 40 hours. The watch is water-resistant to 30 meters.

The Lederer Central Impulse Chronometer will be auctioned at Only Watch 2023, a charity event that raises money for research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The watch is expected to fetch anywhere between CHF 100,000 – 200,000 or conceivably beyond, as its stature is elevated by its unparalleled and pioneering horological nature.
