Wood Time Fashions SJW & KKB Watch Review

Case Back

There is never much to say about case backs unless they are exhibition case backs. Quartz watches usually have boring case backs, but why complain? You’re rarely going to show the back of your watch off or even take a look for yourself.

Regardless, I am thorough and I think these case backs are pretty cool. Since they are engraved they have an artful aspect and I like the simplicity. The only thing I’m not crazy about is lack of useful information such as water resistance because that’s something I usually discuss here, but I have no clue in this case (no pun intended). I also discuss the crown here. To me, the crown is an important detail because if it’s a pain to use then I’m less likely to take it traveling, for example. I also don’t like breaking my fingernails off to change the time twice a year. Hypersensitive? Maybe. The good news is that this is my favorite crown out of any watch I’ve ever used. It’s very smooth, appropriately sized, and has two
positions for changing the date independently. For whatever reason most people get this detail wrong.
WTF got it right.

Strap and Buckle

As I always begin the strap section of my reviews: “I’m a huge watch strap fan. I love custom straps made by old guys in their garages, NATO straps from Europe, and odd straps like denim or canvas.” This is an odd strap because it is also completely made of wood. The links of wood were put together well and have a great screw in system for adding/removing links for sizing. I always do the sizing of my watches on my own because Im too eager to get to a jewelry store. This was the second easiest sizing I’ve ever done, just behind a stainless steel bracelet from Strap Code that uses a similar system.

My favorite part was it came sized too large, as is typical, but it also already had several links removed which made for a quicker sizing. That’s great news for a dude with dinky wrists (me). Other than that the strap is comfortable and wasn’t a bother. It is thick for a bracelet style strap, but it didn’t bother me at all.

Regarding the buckle, it is stainless steel, but does feel cheap at times. It doesn’t always stay if you don’t make sure it’s clicked in well. That could be a big strike against these watches, but I attribute most of my problems to user error. In other words, I rush putting it on and it ends
up not being done securely. It is minimal and doesn’t get in the way of anything else which is a big score for WTF.

The Verdict

Charity! Buy a watch and a child in need gets 3 books. That’s enough for me…but if you need more: These are skillfully crafted 100% wooden watches with great character and are very comfortable. Oh yeah…and they include a subtle inspirational quote on the bezel! The clasp doesn’t always catch as easily as I’d like it to. For more info, please visit woodtimefashion.com
