H. Moser & Cie, in my opinion, is one of the few brands that can create an Haute Horlogerie product that while being packed with technical advancements also manages to look the part without being too overwhelming. For the H. Moser & Cie. Heritage Centre Seconds Funky Blue, the brand has gone back to a time when pocket watches ruled the horological landscape and has created a watch that exudes a nice vintage charm with Moser’s fun and colorful twist.
One area where every Moser timepiece shines is the dial and this watch is no different. The iridescent blue dial is stunning to look at and features a sunburst finish along with Moser’s signature fumé treatment. It begins with a deep shade of blue at the center and ends with an almost blackish hue towards the outer periphery to present a wide gamut of color. But what makes this dial special are those applied numerals that are made of Globolight, an innovative ceramic compound injected with Superluminova and give the watch a modern sporty look along with making it a lume monster that can be easily read in dimly lit situations. Surrounding the markers is a railroad-style minute track which is quite reminiscent of pocket watches from the past. As for the hands, Moser has gone with well-proportioned and lume filled hour/minute hands and a stick style seconds hand with a circular counterbalance.
The case on this watch is made from stainless steel and measures a modern 42mm in diameter. While it has a conventional round shape, the case does feature some interesting design flourishes inspired by military watches from the past such as the oversized onion-shaped crown and the thin wire style lugs. The sides of the case have been decorated with closely spaced vertical lines that give it an Art Deco vibe. A sapphire crystal protects the face of the watch and there is also an exhibition glass on the back to give a view of the powerhouse behind this beauty.
Driving this watch is H. Moser & Cie’s in-house caliber HMC 200. This is an automatic movement that operates at a frequency of 3Hz and offers a healthy autonomy of 72 hours. It is equipped with a Straumann Hairspring, a skeletonized rotor and has been beautifully decorated.
The H. Moser & Cie. Heritage Centre Seconds Funky Blue is handsome looking watch that seamlessly blends the past and the present. The watch would come attached to a brown leather strap with contrast beige stitching and would retail for CHF 13,900.
