Edox is a brand that has no shortage of history when it comes to dive watches. The Edox Hydro-Sub is one such watch that has its feet deep into the world of dive watches. Being one of the most well-known dive watch collections by Edox, the original was released in the 1960s and was a behemoth of a dive watch with impressive specifications. The new Edox Hydro-Sub Automatic Chronometer retains the DNA of the original and is a vintage-oriented design.

Presented in an eye-pleasing deep blue dial, the dial features central hour and minute hands in orange color. Not only the indices but the hands as well are in rectangular style, giving an air of solidity to the watch. The hands and the indices are all treated with Super-LumiNova for easier reading of the dial in low light conditions. A simple date window sits quietly as it should at 3 o’clock position. Resting atop the dial is the unidirectional bezel, which has a ceramic insert with a 60-minute scale.

Enclosing the whole setup is the stainless steel case measuring 42mm x 12.5mm, with mostly brushed surfaces and alternated with polished details. The 2.5 mm-thick scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal on both sides of the glass, the solid caseback, plus the screw-down crown with a double O’ring seal help to give the watch a 300 meters / 1,000 feet water resistance. The shape of the case is true to the 60s, having lugs integrated into the baseband.

The mechanism which is responsible for ticking inside the watch is the Swiss automatic Caliber 80A (base Sellita SW200), which is certified as a chronometer by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). Beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the movement offers a power reserve of 38 hours and an accuracy of -4/+6 seconds of deviation per day.

The Edox Hydro-Sub ref. 80128-3BUM-BUIO comes with a three-link stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp. The watch is priced at EUR1,790 and comes in only 500 pieces worldwide.
