Introducing The Omega De Ville Tourbillon Co-Axial Master Chronometer Watch

BY JOVAN KRSTEVSKI

Last year, Omega refreshed its De Ville collection by adding a few new elegant and beautiful Tresor timepieces. For 2020, the De Ville collection once again gets an update and a big one at that. So, without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome, the new Omega De Ville Tourbillon Co-Axial Master Chronometer, the brands first-ever master chronometer certified tourbillon watch.

As you can tell by looking at the pictures, this new Watch is all about the 60-second tourbillon, that sits proudly within a circular aperture at the center of the dial. And while tourbillon’s, in general, are delicate, being a part of a METAS certified movement that undergoes some stringent tests, this one is not shy of handling the rigors of daily life. The hand-wound Caliber 2640, that drives this watch is a technical tour de force that has been crafted from 18K Sedna gold. The movement operates at a frequency of 4 Hz and offers highly precise timekeeping with the help of the centrally mounted tourbillon that features a cage made from titanium. The cage rotates once every minute and has a polished Sedna gold seconds hand inset within the bridge for tracking the seconds. The movement has been beautifully decorated and shows off a nice frosted finish along with polished bevels on all the bridges. Furthermore, the two barrels that provide an autonomy of 72 have been presented in black and silver along with a useful power reserve indicator in between.

Like the movement, the dial on this watch also offers a visually engaging experience. Made of solid 18K Sedna gold, the dial has been given a black PVD treatment and a sunburst finish to provide a nice contrast against the golden elements. The dial also features a nice layered construction that gives a nice sense of depth. The upper layer comprises the applied Sedna gold hour markers that are a combination of single and double batons (for quadrants). The lower layer consists of the Tourbillon along with the mysterious baton-style hour and minute hands. As the hands sit deep below, Omega has made clever use of the height to implement a printed minute track. Surrounding the tourbillon is a polished fluted bezel made of gold that adds a ton of personality to the dial.

The case on this watch measures a modern 43mm in diameter and has been constructed using two different gold alloys. The bezel, case back, crown, and lugs have been presented in 18K Sedna gold that emits a nice warm tone whereas the sides of the case have been presented in 18K Canopus gold (a white gold alloy) to add a contemporary touch.

The new Omega De Ville Tourbillon Co-Axial Master Chronometer would come attached to a black alligator strap and would retail for EUR 158,000. The watch would be delivered inside a special box with a travel pouch and a crown winder.
