Tudor returns with a new precious metal Black Bay Fifty-Eight.

Tudor caused a stir in the world of Horology when it released the Black Bay 58 during Baselworld 2018. Perfectly sized, powered by an in-house movement, and featuring a vintage-inspired design, the Black Bay 58 ticks a lot of boxes. Last year, the brand released a blue dial variation of the Black Bay 58, targeted towards people who weren’t fans of the heavy gilt accents on the original. Now, during Watches and Wonder 2021, Tudor released a couple of new variations of the Black Bay Fifty-Eight, one of which is the Black Bay Fifty-Eight 925. This new watch features a taupe-colored dial and a case made from Sterling silver.

Due to its tendency to turn black over a period, Silver seems like an unusual choice of material for a dive watch. However, Tudor has confirmed that the case on the Black Bay 925 is a special alloy of silver that will not get tarnished easily and will continue to maintain its luster. Apart from the silver-based construction, the case remains identical in dimensions and design to other members of the Fifty-Eight family. It measures 39mm in diameter and has a thickness of less than 12mm and offers a water resistance of 200 meters. Finishing also looks familiar with fine brushing throughout the case and polished bevels running along the sides. Sitting on top of the case is a uni-directional 60 click bezel that in this instance features a taupe aluminum insert to match the color of the dial. One noteworthy change on the case, which also happens to be a first for the Black Bay family, is the use of a transparent case back instead of a closed case back.

The Sapphire exhibition glass gives way to the in-house COSC certified Calibre MT5400. A robust automatic movement the MT5400 operates at 4 Hz and offers a healthy autonomy of 70 hours. It comes equipped with a fixed balanced bridge and non-magnetic components to improve performance and ensure longevity. In terms of decoration, the movement bears an industrial look.

The new Black Bay Fifty-Eight 925 has been presented with a Matt Taupe dial. The color is muted and offers a nice contrast to the silver body giving the watch a slightly elegant demeanor. The layout looks familiar with applied lume filled hour indices, a printed silver minute track, and the signature snowflake-style hands which have also been filled with luminous paint to enhance low light visibility.

The new Black Bay Fifty-Eight 925 would be available to purchase on either a dark brown leather strap or a Taupe-colored nylon strap. The retail price has been set at CHF 4,100.
