Introducing The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Bronze Watches

Oris presents a full bronze casual sports watch for 2022.

Have you ever wanted to have a wrist that’s green? Well, Oris has just the thing for you with its latest Big Crown Pointer Date watch. Okay, so there is some discussion about whether or not bronze watches make your wrists a weird colour, it seems that the patina reduces this effect to some degree. I’m not entirely sure on the point of this one, it looks nice now it’s brand new but the randomness of the patina might interrupt the elegant case and bracelet. Let’s take a closer look.

The watch measures 40mm x 12mm meaning it’s decently proportioned, it won’t be offensive to anyone who has an allergic reaction to case sizes beyond 40mm (yes, I read your comments). It features an elegantly fluted bezel to provide some old-world charm, and the crown has been deliberately oversized for ease of use (this piece is based on a pilot’s watch) while wearing gloves. It’s presented on a classy seven-link bracelet with a full bronze folding clasp, but you can get them with a brown leather strap and pin buckle instead.

Oris is offering this watch with four dial colours: blue, brown, green or Bordeaux. I’m tempted by the lattermost, it provides the most contrast to the watch by being dark but also more interesting than the usual black that most pieces have. The large markers and lumed cathedral hands also stand out the most on this dial, as does the pointer date which goes around the edge.

Inside all the watches is a Sellita SW 200-1, which Oris attaches a custom rotor to and calls the Oris Calibre 754. It has a 4Hz beat rate and 38-hour power reserve. It’s also visible through a sapphire crystal caseback.

Oris is not limiting the production of these, and you can pick one up now for CHF2,000 on a leather strap or CHF2,400 on a bracelet.
