This beautiful piece is sure to turn heads at Baselworld. This particular Autavia is one of Autavia’s 16 first generation pieces which was originally designed in 1966 and famously worn by the Formula 1 champion Jochen Rindt. This watch is being brought back into the market, better than ever by popular vote. Voters were asked to choose their favorite iconic chronograph and here is your winner. The people have spoken, so now it’s time to show the world its newest revival piece.
The pre-release coverage of this piece earlier in the month is a definite tribute to the sheer beauty and craftsmanship put into 2017 TAG Heuer Autavia. All watch collectors alike will be pleased with the release of this stunning timepiece. The sheer dominance of the piece’s color, valor, shine, functionality, and detail is more than enough to impress all watch collectors, old and young.
The utter size of this piece, 42mm, sets the stage for its presence along with the absolute beastie thickness of the watch. This large and thick case really creates a large appearance to the 12-hour bezel, which can’t be mistaken or forgotten. The classic reverse panda dial has a deep black backdrop and three white sub-registers (smaller dials). At three o’clock is the 30 minute counter, at six o’clock is a counter to measure running seconds, and at nine o’clock is the piece’s 12 hour counter. The Autavia Heuer logo can be found in the backdrop of the piece at 12 o’clock. On the face, each hour is marked with a white hash mark. The black painted silver bezel aligns around the face and displays the numerals one through 12 for easy time keeping. The brown stitched, worn leather strap is brilliant when compared to the silver, white, and black of the backdrop of the piece.
Inside of the timepiece, there is a Caliber Heuer 02 movement. This technology essentially allows the piece to get a self-winding movement and an 80-hour power reserve. The thickness of the piece really helps to preserve the power unit in the back.
