Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Skelet-One Ceramic Black And Blue

BY JOVAN KRSTEVSKI

There are lots of great timepieces in the world, some of which are better than others. The Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Skelet-One Ceramic collection is one of the latest and most iconic watches on the market, and it was presented at Baselworld 2018. Here Jaquet Droz showcased a new take on the classic 8 figure on the watch dial.

This watch comes in 3 versions, one of them is black ceramic with a little gold and the other two are in gold. What makes this particular watch stand out is that it doesn’t have a skeletonized movement and a clear dial. What you get is lots of aerial bridges and a clear insight into the watch mechanics.

On top of that you get to see have a true focus on the way the mechanism itself works. That’s special and it manages to bring in front some pretty impressive experiences to begin with. The interesting thing is that you do have the 8-shape on the dial which is rather iconic for this brand. You have the regular showcasing or hours and minutes that counter at 12, and these are intertwined with a very large seconds counter at 6. And then there’s the seconds subdial made out of sapphire. This helps present the skeleton movement in a unique manner. They worked very hard to ensure that the mainplate movement is following the shape of the 8 on the watch dial, which makes this watch a rather unique and very interesting timepiece to begin with.

It’s interesting to see that the black on gold model has a new version now that cleverly integrates black ceramic into the mix. Another thing to consider is that the golden elements are replaced with the rhodium plating or blue accents. While it does seem more technical right now, the watch also comes with a more modern appeal.

The automatic caliber JD2663SQ is definitely something you will like a lot. It has a twin barrel movement and you will also notice that the watch has a silicon balance spring and silicon pallet horns. The company also has a personalized balance as well as external screws. Plus, there’s the great 18k white gold central rotor.

Even more so, the movement of the Grande Seconde Skelet-One Ceramic Black And Blue has 28800 vibrations per hour at 4 Hz. And the great thing is that Jaquet Droz made the watch with the idea that it will offer a 68-hour power reserve. This is quite the achievement for a watch like this. Not to mention that all the plates and movement bridges have a black NAC coating.

Despite the fact that every Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Skelet-One Ceramic Black And Blue is individually numbered, this is not a limited edition. While not a lot of people know this, every watch is engraved with the watch number. This is something very special and you will rarely find a watch that does this. Which is a great testament to the value and quality provided by this watch. Pricing might vary, however this is slightly expensive when compared to the ceramic model launched in 2018. Either way, this is an extraordinary timepiece and one that you are bound to appreciate and enjoy! Visit Jaquet Droz here.
