Last year, during BaselWorld 2019, Zodiac announced two colorful modern reissues of its Aerospace diver GMT from the 1970s. Given the brand’s popularity and being limited in number, both watches sold out quite quickly. So, for those of you who wanted to, but could not get lucky with last year’s offerings, Zodiac is back again with another cool looking GMT, the Super Sea Wolf GMT “Sherbet”. This new watch features a vivid cream/orange colorway that was selected based on the result of a customer survey conducted by Zodiac asking its fans about which color would they want to see next on a Zodiac watch.
Regardless of how the colors got finalized, the combination of cream and orange looks bright, vibrant, and refreshing. The base dial has been presented in cream and features a layout identical to last year’s Aerospace GMT’s. So, what you get here are faceted block style applied markers for hours, a black printed minute track, a date window at 3, rectangular hour/minute/GMT hands, and a paddle style seconds hand. But what brings this dial to life is the splash of orange that can be seen on the lume plots behind the hour markers and the GMT hand.
The stainless-steel case on the new “Sherbet” GMT is modestly sized. It measures 40mm in diameter and has a thickness of around 13mm, which makes it suitable for a wide variety of wrists. The case is well finished and offers a good blend of brushed and polished surfaces. Sitting on top of the case is a bi-directional bezel that lends the watch a summery vibe. The bezel insert has been rendered in white and orange and features 24-hour indications printed in blue and white along with a triangular lume pip. The insert is protected by a domed mineral crystal that is reminiscent of Zodiac Bakelite bezels from the past.
Powering this watch is the venerable ETA 2893-2 automatic movement. It operates at a frequency of 4Hz and offers a power reserve of around 42 hours. As this is a GMT movement it offers the added functionality of tracking an extra timezone apart from normal timekeeping.
The new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf GMT “Sherbet” is accompanied by a steel bracelet and retails for USD 1,695. The production run is limited to just 182 pieces.
