2012 was all about the Pilot collection for IWC, but 2013 is the year of the Ingenieur.
There is a new lineup of models being added to the range and a partnership with Mercedes AMG Petronas.
Along these lines, we’ve got your first look at both the Ingenieur Chronograph Racer and Ingenieur Silberpfeil, watches with close ties to the world of Formula One.
The collection does not only take inspiration from the world of Formula One, but also utilizes technical materials to make the watches as robust, wearable, and functional as possible.
First there is the Ingenieur Chronograph Racer, which you can see here.
It comes in two configurations, one with a white dial, blue hands, and red accents, and the other with a dark grey dial, black subdials, silver hands, and those same red accents.
The Ingenieur Chronograph Racer will be available on either a steel bracelet with clasp or a combination rubber/textile strap.
And then there is the special edition Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil, dedicated to the Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow (Silberpfeil in German).
The dark grey circular-grain dial invokes the dashboard dials of these historic cars, and a Silver Arrow is engraved on the case back as well.
It’s a nicely way to pay tribute to an amazing racing history.
The Ingenieur Chronograph Racer is powered by the IWC in-house automatic flyback chronograph calibre 89361, that we already know from the Portuguese Yacht Club.
This movement’s chronograph are placed in one subdial at the 12 o’clock position and the central seconds hand sweeps along the bezel with an engraved tachymeter scale.
