In 2024, Bremont debuted at Watches & Wonders Geneva and brought along with it its most divisive collection yet in the form of the Terra Nova, which looked nothing like any Bremont watches seen before. Even the logo had been changed much to the annoyance of many fans. Bremont has stuck to their guns with the Terra Nova, and now, they’re releasing three new models, which are all coloured bronze.
Some folks love bronze watches, particularly the ones that have patinated over time as bronze is well-known for doing. Other folks don’t like the fact that bronze changes its appearance over time and it turns your wrist a funny colour in the process. To that end what you see is actually a PVD coating which looks like bronze and has the colouration of bronze but is not. In fact, it’s a blend of high-strength aluminium which keeps the weight down whilst also hopefully not discolouring your arm too much. Make no mistake these will develop a patina, but it should be a bit more graceful than some of those bronze Panerai watches which ended up looking like they belong in a coral reed. You know the ones I mean.
Terra Nova 40.5mm Date Bronze
Anyway, the most basic is the 40.5mm x 11.11mm Terra Nova 40.5mm Date version. It’s got a 100m water resistance rating for practicality, and the green dial features huge numerals filled with lume for easy legibility.
Inside the case is the Sellita BE-36AE movement which is self-winding and comes with a 38-hour power reserve.
The watch has either a leather strap, a NATO strap or a PVD-bronze bracelet to match the case. On a strap one of these is €3,900, and on the bracelet, it’s €4,300.
Terra Nova 40.5mm Turning Bezel Power Reserve Bronze
If you want something with a bit more practicality and a bit more to look at there’s the Terra Nova 40.5mm Turning Bezel Power Reserve Bronze. This watch measures 40.5mm x 11.91mm and keeps the 100m water resistance, but it adds a unique bi-directional rotating bezel with compass markings. The point of the Terra Nova collection is to offer a range of field watches which cover the things you might want to do on the land, matching the marine and airborne themes the brand has been doing for ages. There are also a date window and a power reserve indicator showing you how far along the 41-hour power reserve on the Sellita-based movement you are. This watch is limited to 100 examples and comes on a bracelet, costing €5,350.
Terra Nova 42.5mm Chronograph Bronze
The final model is the Terra Nova 42.5mm Chronograph Bronze and as the name suggests it features a chronograph in a 42.5mm x 14.8mm case. Like the other watches, it has 100m of water resistance, and it comes with a compass bezel, but in this case, it’s a ceramic bezel.
The dial seems readable as well and comes with the green backdrop the other watches have; it even has the date indicator, too. The Sellita SW510 BH is inside this watch, and it offers a lengthy 56-hour power reserve.
It comes on either a NATO strap, a leather strap or a PVD bronze bracelet. When optioned with a strap, it costs €6,400 and on the bracelet, it’s €6,850.
So, love it or loathe it the Terra Nova is here to stay, but what are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.
