Richard Mille presents its new Tourbillon RM 59-01 Yohan Blake watch. Yohan Blake belongs to the highly exclusive circle of the fastest sprinters in the world. The 23-year-old man is a multiple winner at the London Olympics in 2012. Among his greatest achievements is his victory last August in Lausanne – he ran the 100 meters in just 9.69 seconds, having reached the speed of 37.15 km/h.
In July 2012, Yohan Blake has become Richard Mille’s partner, since then having run with the brand’s tourbillon prototype on his wrist. His experience will provide Richard Mille’s engineers with useful information to determine the specifications of a wristwatch created specifically for athletics.
Yohan Blake has also cooperated with the brand’s specialists to develop a special caliber designed for sprinters. As a result, the RM 59-01 Yohan Blake watch was born. It has been developed as an aerodynamic, ergonomic and top-performance tourbillon model meeting all the requirements of the sprinter.
The new Richard Mille watch paralyzes attention by its extremely dynamic bridges spanning the movement. The bridges remind the claws of the «The Beast», the famous sprinter’s nickname. They have been machined from anticorodal aluminium Pb109, representing an alloy of aluminium, magnesium, silicon and lead.
The bridges support the tourbillon carriage and center-wheel pinion, at the same time consolidating the baseplate assembly (in grade 5 titanium) with the case. They are also eloxed (with help of anodic oxidation) and manually painted in green and yellow, the colors that are also featured on the aluminium flange paying tribute to the Jamaican flag and honoring of Yohan Blake.
The Yohan Blake watch accommodates a skeleton, manually-wound tourbillon movement. Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, it offers a 48-hour power reserve. The movement boasts an optimal performance / regularity / power reserve ratio due to the combination of such materials as grade 5 titanium and anticorodal aluminium Pb109, optimized going train and a variable inertia balance.
The case of the RM 59-01 watch represents a fresh version of the tonneau-shaped design the brand is distinguished by. You will notice an unusual thickness and tapering extension between 2 and 5 o’clock – these peculiarities are used for preventing rubbing of the torque-limiting crown against the wearer’s wrist, this way providing supreme comfort of wearing. The case is sculptured from a translucent composite injected with carbon nanotubes. It allows to admire the sophistication of the caliber.
The edition of the Richard Mille Tourbillon RM 59-01 Yohan Blake watch is limited to just 50 pieces.
