Introducing The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Infinity 42mm Watch

BY JOVAN KRSTEVSKI

After being rescheduled due to coronavirus Pandemic, Geneva Watch Days has finally become a reality. Girard-Perregaux is one of the participating brands and today we look at the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Infinity, a watch developed exclusively for popular watch retailer Wempe. This new timepiece features a black onyx dial with gilt highlights and offers a unique spin on a classic.

The real talking point with the Laureato Infinity is its Black Onyx dial. As per Girard-Perregaux, each dial is meticulously crafted and hand-polished to achieve a mirror-like sheen and undergoes around 15 different operations. The use of Onyx makes this watch offer unparalleled depth and sheen to give it a distinctive visual appearance compared to the intricate guilloche dials seen on regular Laureato models. To add a little more visual excitement and good contrast, the GP banding at 12, the applied hour markers, and the second’s hand have been presented in pink gold. The baton-style handset has been offered in steel and the text has been rendered in white, once again offering high contrast against the pitch-black background. Completing the dial is a date window at 3 that seamlessly merges with the dial, thanks to the black date wheel.

The case on the Laureato infinity edition has been crafted from stainless steel and measures 42mm in diameter and 10.7mm in thickness. The overall silhouette of the case remains familiar with an integrated lug design and the signature octagonal bezel on top. The case has been finely executed and offers a blend of high quality polished and brushed surfaces. The watch is water-resistant to a healthy 100 meters.

Flipping the watch over gives the wearer an expansive view of the Calibre GP1800-1404 through the sapphire case back. A self-winding unit, the GP1800-1404 comprises 28 jewels, operates at a frequency of 4Hz, and offers a power reserve of around 54 hours. The movement has been beautifully decorated using perlage, Geneva stripes, and much more.

The new Girard-Perregaux Laureato Infinity 42mm is accompanied by an integrated steel bracelet. The watch is limited to just 188 pieces and would be sold exclusively through Wempe boutiques retailing at USD 13,200.
