During Baselworld 2019, Glashütte Original introduced the “Spezialist”, a new collection of SeaQ dive watches heavily inspired by a 1969 reference from the brand’s archives. Most recently, Glashütte Original launched new precious metal variations of the modern and bigger SeaQ Panorama Date and now the brand has given the smaller and more retro looking SeaQ a new Blue attire.
When the new SeaQ watches were launched, the 39.5mm variant was offered only with a black dial, printed numerals, and old radium Superluminova to stay close to its vintage inspiration. The new blue dial variant keeps the vintage flavor intact and brings in a few noteworthy changes. First and foremost is the beautiful blue sunburst dial that looks vibrant and a tad livelier than the existing black dial. Secondly, the printed hour index has now been replaced with chunky applied numerals and batons that provide an added sense of depth to dial. And finally, the lume application on this new watch has been done in white to lend the watch a slightly contemporary vibe. The rest of the layout remains the same with a date window at 3, a white printed minute track, and a well-proportioned lume filled handset.
The case of the SeaQ Blue has been crafted from stainless steel and remains identical in design and dimensions to last year’s model. It measures 39.5mm in diameter, has a thickness of 12.5mm, and has a depth rating of 200 meters that is ensured by the screw-down crown at 3. The case has been beautifully finished with finely brushed and polished surfaces. Sitting on top of the case is a blue ceramic bezel with a white graduation scale that secures the domed sapphire crystal. The rear of the case features a closed case back that has been deeply embossed with sea waves and a trident motif with the brand’s logo.
Inside the new SeaQ Blue is the brand’s in-house caliber 39-11. This is an automatic movement that operates at a frequency of 4Hz and offers an autonomy of around 40 hours. The movement has been tastefully decorated and features Glashütte stripe finish, skeletonized rotor with heavy metal oscillation weight, beveled edges, and more. Sadly, the movement can’t be appreciated as it is hidden underneath the closed case back.
The new SeaQ blue is available to purchase on a host of strap options that include rubber, nylon, and a steel bracelet. Prices would start from EUR 8,580.
