The Italian watchmaking brand Panerai has a deep connection with the military, having historically manufactured military tools and hardware for them. With their strong affinity towards the military, it’s not surprising that now Panerai has partnered with Italian special forces, the Forze Speciali. The result is the introduction of two new special edition Panerai Submersible watches, the Submersible Forze Speciali Experience Edition PAM01238 and Submersible Forze Speciali PAM01239.

While they differ in terms of appearance, both watches have the same basic technical features. To round up their fundamental elements, both models are constructed with DLC-coated titanium cases measuring 47mm and are fitted with unidirectional rotating bezels made in ceramic. The pusher at 8 o’clock controls the flyback function, allowing the chronograph to reset and restart with one press of the pusher. Other than the flyback function, the new Submersible models also have a ‘Time to Target countdown’. This countdown, indicates the time remaining till arrival at the target and, once there, the time elapsed afterward. The wearer of the watch will continually press the button at 4 o’clock to set the central chronograph hand at the chosen interval; hitting the chronograph stop/start button at 10 o’clock begins the countdown. The case is water resistant to 30 bar (300 meters / 1,000 feet).

The black dial features indexes treated with Super-LumiNova, a chronograph hour counter at 3 o’clock, small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock, and two central hands show Chronograph seconds and minutes. The models are powered by Panerai’s in-house P.9100/R movement which boasts an impressive three-day power reserve.

The Panerai Submersible Forze Speciali Experience Edition PAM01238 has a green ceramic bezel, an engraving of Panerai Experience on its caseback, and comes on a rubber camouflage strap. Limited to just 50 pieces, each buyer will be invited to Italy to participate in a series of drills with Italian Special Forces troops, putting the timepieces to the test. Panerai Submersible Forze Speciali PAM01239 will be produced 300 pieces per annum starting with 2022, it has an engraving of Marina Militare frogman on caseback and is paired with a blue ceramic bezel.

The new models include a second strap made of black Sportech with a Velcro closure, as well as a tool for switching out the straps and a screwdriver for taking off the buckle. Panerai Submersible Forze Speciali Experience Edition PAM01238 is priced at EUR 55,000 while Submersible Forze Speciali PAM01239 is priced at EUR 29,500.
