Introducing The New Bell & Ross BR V3-94 Black Steel Watch

The V3 collection from Bell & Ross currently constitutes rugged sports watches inspired by the world of Formula 1 racing. With the new BR V3-94 Black Steel, the brand has attempted to give the V3 collection an aviation flavor. Let’s have a look.

Like many previously released Pilots watches from Bell & Ross, the BR V3-94 offers a clean and highly functional aesthetic. Presented in black, the face of this watch features a tri-compax arrangement with a running second register at 3, a 12-hour counter at 6, and a 30-minute register at 9. To provide high contrast against the black background almost everything on the dial has been presented in white. This not only helps improve legibility but also lends the face a cockpit instrument inspired look. The hour index comprises thick printed rectangular batons with a bold Arabic numeral at 12 and is supported by thin hash marks that form the minute track. Time can be read easily using the sword style handset, that along with hour markings has been coated with luminous paint for better low light visibility. A circular date window sits neatly tucked away between 4 and 5, and finally, to complete the dial a tachymeter scale has been printed on the outer flange.

The case on the BR V3-94 is constructed from stainless steel and measures a modern 43mm that should make it offer some nice wrist presence. The case has been satin-brushed for the most part, which helps in giving the watch a utilitarian tool watch vibe. Sitting on top of the case is a steel bezel with an aluminum insert that has a 60-minute scale printed in white. Protecting the dial is a curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating and there is also sapphire crystal on the rear of the watch to view its mechanical underpinnings.

Powering this watch is the Bell & Ross caliber BR-301. This is an automatic movement that is based on the tried and tested ETA 2894. It operates at a frequency of 4Hz and offers a power reserve of around 42 hours.

With the new BR V3-94 Black Steel, Bell & Ross have done what they do best, which is to create a handsome looking tool/pilots watch. The watch would retail for EUR 3,900 on a black leather strap or for EUR 4,200 on a stainless-steel bracelet.
