Jaeger-LeCoultre Expands The Master Ultra Thin Collection With Copper Toned Dial Watches

A grained copper dial gives these longstanding models a small but meaningful shift in character.

We’ve seen a lot of great watches this year, but when a brand like Jaeger-LeCoultre updates a core line, you sit up and take notice. The new Master Ultra Thin Date (ref. Q1238460) and Master Ultra Thin Moon (ref. Q1368460) arrive with a fresh look, featuring copper-toned grained dials.

Both models sit in 39mm x 9.3mm (note that the Date model is slightly thinner at 7.9 mm) stainless steel cases with polished surfaces and extended lugs that curve to follow the wrist. The finishing is clean and exactly as expected. At this thickness, the watches slip under a shirt cuff easily, which is the entire point of the Ultra Thin line, because otherwise it would’ve been a “you had one job” kind of situation. The proportions work well for wrists in different sizes without crossing into oversized territory. Water resistance is 50 metres.

The update really shows up on the dial. The copper tone with its grained matte finish softens the look compared to the usual silver. The layout stays familiar, with trapezoid indexes and Dauphine hands that play with the light. On the Moon model, the moon phase sits over a deep blue sky with the date wrapped around it.

Inside the Date is Calibre 899, and the Moon uses Calibre 925. Both are made in-house, runs at 4Hz and give you 70 hours of power reserve. The decoration is what you’d expect from JLC: Côtes de Genève, beveled bridges, blue screws and a 22-carat pink gold rotor you can see through the sapphire back. These watches also go through the brand’s 1,000-Hour Control, which tests everything, not just the movement.

They come on brown alligator straps with tool-free quick release and steel folding buckles. Both are available now, €10,500 / $10,400 for the date and €12,900 / $12,600 for the Moon phase.
