Junghans Meister Chronograph Midnight Blue Watch

Next up in the fashionable blue watch category is Junghans with a rather elegant design. The Meister Chronoscope incorporates the classic traits of Junghans’ design, such as a narrow bezel with a minimalist, domed dial. This dress watch introduces the contemporary blue colour to the classic chronograph in an interesting fashion and demonstrates how flexible a good design can be.

The Chronoscope measures in at 40.7mm in diameter, quite conservative then. The case is not made of solid gold, but rather stainless steel with a PVD coating. While Junghans certainly could make a solid precious metal watch if they wanted to, it may not be very popular with their clientele as it would be seen as out of the price zone for most of their customers.

Nevertheless, it offers a high-end look for an affordable price of just $2095. It’s not exactly like it lacks in function, either. The new Chronoscope Midnight Blue might be made in Germany, but it still features a Swiss-made movement. The base for this watch’s calibre J880.1 is an ETA base, the 7750 to be exact. That gives the watch a chronograph, it also has a day and a date display, too, with weekdays in either German or English possible. The 6-9-12 layout of the subdials is attractive and offers a nice amount of balance to the dial, the running seconds at 9 O’clock are smaller than the other two subdials so you can clearly distinguish them. The hours and minutes hands also have a small amount of lume applied to them for night time readability, though there appear to be no applications of lume on the dial.

The watch comes on a black alligator leather strap and has a PVD coated stainless steel buckle as well. Overall the watch offers a lot of bang-per-buck opportunities thanks to the chronograph and day-date functions from the automatic movement. Buyers of the new Junghans Chronoscope in Midnight Blue will most likely be impressed by the looks and the functionality of the timepiece. Thanks to its size, it will most likely fit perfectly on the majority of wrists as well, and may come in as a significant part of a larger collection or as a ‘one watch fits all’ deal.
