NOMOS Glashütte Tetra Plum Watch

BY JOVAN KRSTEVSKI

German brand Nomos is well known for making some great looking classically styled mechanical timepieces. To celebrate the arrival of the fall season the brand has now introduced a purple dial variation of its square watch the Tetra.

In a world where round cases are almost a norm, the square-shaped case of the Tetra is a refreshing change. Crafted from stainless steel the case on the new Tetra Plum measures 29.5mm by 29.5mm from edge to edge. While the case primarily features straight polished lines, the Art Deco style double lug structure enhances its visual appeal. Also, like a lot of other Nomos watches the lugs have been drilled to make changing straps convenient. The case is water-resistant to 30 meters which is certainly on the lower side but is just fine for an elegant watch like this.

Now, onto what makes this watch special, the dial. Presented in a rich mellow shade of purple the face of the Tetra Plum is inspired by the plum, a fruit that can be enjoyed during the fall season. The minimalist and highly legible dial layout found on the current Tetra lineup remains intact here as well with a few noteworthy differences. First, most of the details on this dial which include the hour index, the minute’s track, the seconds, the branding and the baton-style hands has been presented in silver to provide a nice contrast against the dark background. Second is the inclusion of an offset circular power reserve indicator which is quite useful on a hand-wound watch like the Tetra as it tells the wearer when to reach out to the crown to power up the movement before it runs out of juice and comes to a complete halt.

Powering the Nomos Tetra Plum is the brand’s in-house caliber DUW 4301. This a hand-wound movement that comprises of 17 jewels and is just 2.8mm thick making the case achieve a thin and comfortable profile on the wrist. It operates at a frequency of 3Hz and offers a power reserve of around 42 hours. The movement has been beautifully decorated using perlage, blued screws and Glashütte stripes, and can’t, unfortunately, be viewed through the case back due to its closed back.

The Nomos Tetra Plum is a colorful new addition to the Tetra collection. The watch would come attached to a gray leather strap and retail for EUR 2,140.
