SevenFriday P3C/04 Carbon Red Watch

An adrenaline pumping time machine.

SevenFriday is a brand that specializes in making distinctive timepieces that offer an unconventional take on timekeeping. The latest idiosyncratic offering from the brand is the P3C/04 Red Carbon, a motorsport-inspired watch that has been dressed in black and red to set your heart racing.

Like most SevenFriday watches, the dial of P3C/04 Red Carbon follows a multilayer construction showcasing a lot of depth and detail. Starting from the top, you first have a minute chapter ring with double-digit markings at intervals of five and applied indices at 12, 4, and 8. As a nod to the racing theme, the section between 40 and 60 minutes has been highlighted in red to mimic the red zone found on the RPM meters of sports cars. Stepping down a level, the next layer features the Seven Friday branding, a small yellow indicator along with the 24-hour display at 9, a running seconds display between 4 and 5, and a small semi-circular opening that gives a glimpse of the balance wheel of the movement. Once again, most of the elements on this layer have been presented in a fiery red color to go with the sporty theme.

Finally, sitting at the bottom of the dial is an Arch plate that is made from carbon fiber, a material that is known for its lightweight nature and high tensile strength and is widely used in manufacturing sports cars. The carbon fiber disc on this instance houses a mix of printed white batons and numerals at 12 and 2. At the center of all the action are the broad hour and minute hands that, like the applied markers, have been filled with luminous paint for enhanced low light visibility.

Like the dial, the case continues to kick in the adrenaline rush. The completely blacked out PVD case features a stepped bezel that is made of carbon fiber and is surrounded by a red ring. The case measures a large 47.6mm in diameter, however, its cushion case design keeps the lug to lug length restricted to just 47mm, which should make the watch sit comfortably on most wrists. At the 3 o’clock position is a large, grippy crown that should make winding the movement a joy. The crystal on the front is made of K1 hardened mineral glass, whereas the case back has been kept closed and has been embedded with an NFC chip that allows for secured authorization and authentication. Also, underneath the case back is the Japanese Miyota 82S7 automatic movement, which operates at 3 Hz and offers a power reserve of around 40 hours.

The new SevenFriday P3C/04 Red Carbon comes attached to a red strap that is made from competition strength seat belt material and features a cool yellow SevenFriday logo in UV print. The watch would retail for $1,650
