The Sekki collection was first launched in 2019 drawing inspiration from the twenty four seasonal phases of the Japanese calendar. The collection includes many notable releases and now Grand Seiko has updated the collection with two new models, aligned with the collection’s theme and bringing another interpretation of nature’s changing seasons to Grand Seiko’s design language.
The watches are housed in the familiar 62GS case, known for its polished surfaces and distortion-free reflections achieved through Zaratsu finishing. The stainless steel case measures 40mm x 12.9mm, maintaining the modern proportions of the series while retaining the absence of a bezel, resulting in an expansive dial display. A screw-down crown at 4 o’clock helps achieve a 100m water resistance.
The dial continues Grand Seiko’s tradition of textured surfaces, drawing inspiration from seasonal landscapes. It features a pressed pattern that mimics natural elements, with applied indices and sharply faceted hands. These models opt for steel hands and markers, the hour and minute hands are finished with a brushed top surface and polished bevels, the GS logo and central seconds hand are rendered in gold-tone. A framed date window at 3 o’clock integrates into the layout without disrupting the overall symmetry. The dial’s color is composed to evoke the essence of its seasonal inspiration, maintaining continuity with the rest of the Sekki collection.
Powering the watches is the Caliber 9S85, a Hi-Beat automatic movement that offers a 55h power reserve and a stated accuracy of +5/-3 seconds per day.
The watches are fitted with Ever-Brilliant steel bracelets, secured by a folding clasp and push-button release. Priced at EUR 8,000 and part of the permanent collection, the Grand Seiko Heritage 62GS Hi-Beat SBGH351 Rikka and SBGH353 Shūbun will be available worldwide from February 2025 at Grand Seiko boutiques and select retailers.
