H. Moser & Cie. Unveils The Streamliner Genesis 2 Watch With Vantablack Dial

The dark side of luxury watchmaking is perfectly encapsulated in this Genesis 2.

Moser is back with the second act of their Genesis trilogy and quite interestingly, this time they’ve shifted from the blockchain-focused first watch to a traditional steel piece. Where that one explored NFTs and digital authentication, this one focuses on a more tangible side of its watchmaking.

The case is 40mm x 10.3mm (12.1mm with sapphire crystal) in stainless steel, cushion-shaped like the rest of the Streamliner family. It has that integrated bracelet flowing right out of the case. Water resistance sits at 120 meters. The crown’s 3D printed titanium with those pixelated edges carried over from Genesis 1.

The dial features a vantablack surface, the stuff that absorbs 99.965% of light. I’ve seen it on a few watches now, most notably Moser’s own Endeavour Concept Vantablack line a few years back, and it still delivers the punch. The effect makes the dial look almost like an empty void, with the steel hands appearing to float on top. Those hands are pixelated, continuing the design from the first watch.

The HMC 203 runs the show. In-house automatic, three-day power reserve, 21,600vph with Straumann hairspring, which is a Moser thing. The movement’s visible through the caseback.

The steel bracelet matches the case with polished and brushed surfaces. The price is CHF 29,900 before tax. Here is the catch. If you own the Genesis 1, you can purchase the Genesis 2, or you can hope you are close to someone who does, because each of the 50 owners gets to buy one and invite one friend. That brings the total to 100 pieces, 50 per group. Move fast because 50 pieces per group will not last forever.
