The iconic TAG Heuer Carrera collection welcomes a futuristic newcomer – the Carrera CMC Concept Chronograph watch. The novelty is fully crafted in Carbon Matrix Composite.
The first Carrera watch, inspired by motor sports and aimed at professional drivers and sports-car enthusiasts, was created by Jack Heuer in 1963. Its latest interpretation has been manufactured in the identical space-age carbon composite used in Formula One and the aerospace industry. It is animated by TAG Heuer’s in-house designed and manufactured chronograph movement.
The case of the new TAG Heuer watch is ultra light and greatly resistant. With its hi-tech design, it has been inspired by the brand’s award-winner – the Carrera Microgorder. The model was named Swiss Watch of the Year at the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix held in November 2012, having won the highly prestigious Aiguille d’Or.
The Carrera CMC Concept Chronograph watch demonstrates the base horns design and the crown and chronograph pushers positioned at 12 o’clock. To use Carbon Matrix Composite for the case, the brand’s watchmakers required to apply into its creation a sophisticated miniaturized manufacturing method.
The case, back and bezel of the new model are made from thin carbon fibers organized as on an isotropic matrix. The reinforced fabric, being just 0.007 mm thick, is structured to construct the components into 3D form. After that the fabric is heated and compacted in order to transform with help of a chemical reaction its soft, flexible layers into an ultra rigid form.
The innovative manufacturing method of the brand facilitates watch production, and provides intricate detailing and machining with fewer geometrical constraints and a remarkably high degree of precision. You will notice that the edges of the case middle are impressively detailed.
The new TAG Heuer Carrera watch has been subjected to the brand’s quality-control tests that proved that the timepiece is also wear- and scratch-resistant. Its extreme lightness provides supreme comfort on the wrist.
