The Senator collection from Glashütte Original comprises of elegantly styled timepieces which are a true expression of exemplary German craftsmanship. As a part of its novelties for 2019, Glashütte Original has introduced a slightly revamped version of the Senator Chronometer. This new model brings forward subtle changes which include a new red gold case with a thinner bezel and a grained silver dial giving the watch a more contemporary look.
The face of the Senator Chronometer is inspired by marine chronometers from the past with a high focus on accuracy and legibility. The silver colored dial has a nice texture to it giving it an added visual appeal and is characterized by bold Roman numerals which are responsible for the classic looks of this watch. Surrounding the numerals is a railroad style minute track which is influenced by marine deck clocks and makes it a breeze to read the time with the help of the beautiful thermally blued pear-shaped hour and minute hand. Underneath 12 is a nicely recessed power reserve indicator with a discreet circular window to indicate night or day. Above 6 is a large sub-seconds dial which features printed markings to ensure precise setting of time. Finishing things up is the brands signature Panorama date window at 3 which is nicely matched to the color of the dial showcasing some nice attention to detail.
The case on the new Glashütte Senator Chronometer is made from red gold giving the watch a nice sense of warmth. Dimensionally things remain similar to the previous generation model with the case having a diameter of 42mm and a thickness of 12.47mm. But the new case does have a little trick up its sleeve. Glashütte Original has slimmed down the bezel on top of the case which has resulted in making more space for the dial. Apart from that, there is a sapphire crystal on both front as well as back and the case is water resistant to 50 meters.
Powering this watch is the brand’s in-house caliber 58-01. This is a manually wound movement which operates at a frequency of 4 Hz offering a power reserve of around 44 hours. The movement has been beautifully decorated and features a three-quarter plate with Glashütte striping, blued screws, hand-engraved balance cock and much more making it a pleasure to look at from the exhibition case back. The movement also comes with a German Chronometer certificate ensuring high accuracy.
The new Glashütte Original Senator is a great looking dress watch which is now sharper and more refined than before. The watch would come attached to a dark brown Louisiana Alligator leather strap and would retail at a price of EUR 25,700.
