Launched in 2019, the Urban Day-Date is a sporty, youthful, and affordable offering within Meistersinger’s universe of peculiar single hand timepieces. For 2020, the brand has now introduced a special variation of this watch to commemorate Netherlands 75th freedom anniversary that passed recently on 5th May 2020.
To honor this special landmark, Meistersinger has given the Urban Day-Date Vrijheidseditie a few interesting design touches inspired by the Dutch nation. First and foremost are the colors on the dial that have been thoughtfully selected to represent the colors on the National flag of the Netherlands. The base dial has been presented in a nice shade of blue with a gradient effect, and the hour and minute markings have been rendered in a combination of white and red.
Moving on, as can be seen in the pictures, the day and date function has also seen some modifications. For instance, the days of the week displayed under 12 have now been replaced with the following text: Vrijheid (Freedom), Democratie (Democracy), Je Maintiendrai (I shall maintain), Privilege, Soevereiniteit (Sovereignty), Onafhankelijkheid (Independence) and Dankbaarheid (Gratitude). Furthermore, the date wheel has also been altered to display the Dutch flag on the 5th of every month. And finally, just above the date window is the text “Editie 75” that illustrates that this watch is a special 75th-anniversary edition.
The case on this watch like the regular production model has been crafted from stainless steel and measures 40mm in diameter along with a thickness of 13.25mm. The crown is a simple push/pull unit and water-resistance is limited to just 50 meters. Protecting the dial is a sapphire crystal and the case back also has an exhibition window to view the Miyota 8285 caliber that powers this watch. This is an automatic movement that operates at a frequency of 3 Hz and offers a respectable power reserve of around 42 hours when fully wound.
The Meistersinger Urban Day-Date Vrijheidseditie would come attached to a brown leather strap and would be limited to just 75 pieces. The retail price has been set at EUR 1075 and the delivery of the watch would begin 15th August onwards.
