Ressence has a knack for rethinking how time should be displayed, and the new TYPE 7 follows that philosophy to a tee. This isn’t a watch that blends into the crowd; it’s one you’ll find yourself staring at, even when you already know what time it is.
The case is Grade 5 titanium measuring 41 mm x 14 mm. Sharp edges are nowhere to be found. Instead, you’ll see gentle curves and smooth transitions. And as expected from Ressence, there’s no crown; you adjust everything via a rotating caseback.
The dial is domed and fully oil-filled, it creates an optical illusion where the dial seems printed on the crystal. Part of Ressence’s ROCS (Ressence Orbital Convex System), it’s composed of essentially a series of rotating discs and subdials that all move in unison; displaying hours, minutes, GMT time, day of the week and date. The GMT time is shown on a dedicated subdial. The sub-dials themselves are in constant motion, and the entire display feels alive. The layout includes large Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock on the hour disc. A clearly marked minute track surrounds the dial’s perimeter. Legibility is spot on, thanks to bold indices and bright Super-LumiNova.
Inside beats a customized automatic ETA 2892 base movement with the ROCS module, offering 36h power reserve and powering the complex display without fuss.
The watch comes on an integrated Grade 5 titanium bracelet, with optional leather or rubber straps. Priced at CHF 36,000 (excluding taxes), it’s available from April through Ressence retailers and online.
