Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso 1931 Seconde Centrale Watch

By Osheen Arakelian

If there is one thing that Jaeger-LeCoultre is known for their rectangular Reverso Collection, that is iconic in the watch industry. Spanning generations and a multitude of variations, the Reverso has truly made its mark in the world of Haute Horlogerie from the Reverso Classique and the Reverso Cordonnet to the Reverso Gyrotourbillon 2 and even the Reverso Répétition Minutes à Rideau. Today however Jaeger-LeCoultre is introducing the 1931 Seconde Centrale, that will be a boutique edition only. Taking its inspiration from the original model released in 1931, the Grande Reverso Seconde Centrale is a beautiful reinterpretation of the original and does it justice.

With such strong ties to the world of Polo, it was only fitting that Jaeger-LeCoultre release their new Art-Deco inspired timepiece at the kick-off of the new Polo season held in England. So what can you expect from the new Grande Reverso? The case is of course rectangular and measures 46.8×27.4mm in diameter finished in white gold with sapphire crystal used to protect the dial. It is exactly what you would expect to find from this collection so there are no real surprises with the case.

The dial is where this piece truly shines. The dial is black but has powdered numerals and hour markers that have been finished to give the impression of age, which is of course fitting considering it is trying to resemble and recreate the original of 1935. The beauty comes from the central seconds hand that creates a wonderful effect with its round railway-track styling and Arabic numerals that appear in the centre of the dial. A single Oversized Arabic numeral appears at 12 o’clock and is a very striking feature that stands out from the rest of the dial. The face is finished off with Bâton style hands adding the final touch of elegance to an already elegant dial.

Hidden within the Grande Reverso beats the 28,800 beats per hour JLC Calibre 966A mechanical self-winding movement with 38-hour power reserve and 28 jewels. It has been entirely developed and engineered by Jaeger-LeCoultre. The entire piece is finished off with a black alligator strap and pin buckle clasp.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso 1931 Seconde Centrale is another beautiful addition to the existing Reverso range and although only available through selected JCL Boutiques, is not a limited edition piece.
