Longines Master Collection Chronograph Ref. L2.859.4.92.0 Watch

Swiss brand Longines has been the reigning king of the heritage reissue game for a while now. And looking at its rich history, this does not seem to be changing any time soon. That said, the brand is also doing some great work in other areas of its diverse product portfolio, and today we take a quick look at the Reference L2.859.4.92.0, a new dressy chronograph, that has been recently added to the brand’s Master Collection.

The Master Collection from Longines offers a nice mix of elegantly styled traditional and modern timepieces. This new watch falls in the latter camp and has been designed to offer some nice wrist presence. The case is made of stainless steel and measures a large 44mm in diameter, making it best suited for people with medium or large wrists. Size aside, the case is well executed and is dominated by highly polished surfaces to give the watch a dressy vibe. There is a sapphire crystal on both front as well as the back, and as is the case with many other dress watches, the water resistance is limited to a paltry 30 meters.

To provide a nice contrast against the steel case, the face of this watch has been presented in a deep shade of blue. The dial has also been given a nice sunburst finish that not only makes the dial look more graceful but also makes it more dynamic, enabling it to change color under different lighting conditions. The dial features a tri-register setup and has been cleanly laid out with a heavy focus on legibility. The sub-dials have been positioned at 3,6,9 and track the chronograph minutes, hours, and running seconds respectively. Moving outwards, you get an hour index that comprises polished applied batons that offer a nice sense of depth and lend the watch a contemporary feel. Positioned between 4 and 5 is a date window, that stands out a little, due to the white date wheel. And finally, a printed chapter ring graces the flange on the outer periphery of the dial. Reading time is made possible using the leaf-shaped hour and minute hands, which I feel are slightly small and look disproportionate, although, the rest of the hands, that are of baton shape are perfectly sized.

Powering this watch is the Longines caliber L688. An automatic chronograph movement, the L688 is the same movement that powers the popular Longines Avigation Big Eye and comes equipped with a column wheel. It operates at a frequency of 4Hz and offers a healthy power reserve of around 54 hours. The movement can be viewed through the sapphire exhibition case back.

The new Longines Reference L2.859.4.92.0 is available to purchase on either a blue alligator leather strap with white contrast stitching or on a stainless-steel bracelet. Both the variations are priced at EUR 2,560.
